Ven. Khenpo Sange Rangjung Rinpoche

Profile and Position
Venerable – Khenpo Sange Rangjung Rinpoche is a highly qualified Professor of Buddhist Studies and Religious Spiritual Master. He began studying Buddhism at the age of 7 as a young monk at Samten Choling Monastery in Nepal and completed studies and research on all sutras and tantras of Buddhist philosophy along with Tibetan grammar and language at Namdorling Nyingmapa Monastery, Mysore, India which is the prestigious Buddhist Studies and Research Center of Ngagyur Nyingma Institute. On successful completion of PhD studies, Khenpo was conferred with doctorate (Certificate of doctorate) in Buddhist philosophy by His Holiness Pema Norbu “Penor” Rinpoche in 1994.
He is president and founder of Ngagyur Nyingma Palyul Urgen Dorjee Chholing Monastery, Lama School (Shedra) and Retreat Center located at Talku VDC Ward No. 5, Kathmandu, Nepal. He is also President and Chief Master of the following organizations:

Education background and Achievements
Khenpo Sange Rangjung Sherpa was born at Garjang, Ramechhap, Nepal in March 1960. He is youngest son of Mr. Tennyima Lama and Mrs. Dadoma Lama. His name “Sange Rangjung” was bestowed by His Holiness Dodjom Rinpoche when he was 2 months old, during his parents’ visit to Kalimpong.
He started studying and practicing monastic education at Samten Choling Monastery, Thodong, Ramechhap, Nepal in 1967. After studying 7 years at this monastery, he transferred to Yanglashyod Rigzin Drubpi Gatsal Monastery of His Holiness Jyatal Sange Dorjee Rinpoche in Pharping, Kathmandu, Nepal. Here he was blessed by His Holiness Jyatal Sange Dorjee Rinpoche for continuation of studies in Buddhist philosophy. During his four years at this monastery he studied Nyingthig Ngondro (Purba Yog) three roots of Guru, Deva and Dakini and received empowerments (Abhishekh – Vajrayana-Secret) from His Holiness Penor Rinpoche and other Buddhist Masters.
In 1979, he advanced his studies by learning the Sutric studies from Khenpo Daser Rinpoche and Tantra from Khenpo Dukchung Rinpoche for one year. In 1980 with a goal of excelling studies in the philosophies of the great Buddhist scholars he enrolled in Ngagyur Nyingma Institute, Namdroling Nyingmapa Monastery, Mysore in India where he spent ten years receiving teachings on wide range of Buddhist philosophy and practices including the philosophies of great Buddhist scholars and Khenpos, the philosophies of Mahayana (Sutra Sastra), Hinayana and Vajrayana from very outstanding Khenpos and great Buddhist Masters.
He received all type empowerments, oral transmissions and perfected the art of meditations from H.H. Khenche Rinpoche, H.H. Dodupchen Rinpoche, H.H. Thulsik Rinpoche, H.H. Dodjom Rinpoche, H.H. Penor Rinpoche and other masters. He completed the retreat of Guru, Deva, Dakini and also the four foundations; Buddhist Yoga under the Vajrayana, Kerim (Generation stage), Dzogrim (Completion stage), and Dzogchen. While studying Buddhist philosophy, he taught primary and secondary students of Ngagyur Nyingma Institute for seven years between 1983 and 1990. In 1990, Khenpo graduated Masters’ Degree in the Arts with first class honors. Following the Masters Degree, he was assigned to teach students of Ngagyur Nyingma Institute (University) for another two years. In 1993, he returned to Kathmandu and continued teachings students of Shechhen Monastery for 1 year.
Khenpo spent decades studying and practicing Buddhism and receiving teachings on entire range of Buddhist philosophy and perfected the art of meditation and ritual practices. On completion of PhD studies in Buddhist philosophy and in recognition of his excellent teaching abilities, he was awarded Certificate of Doctorate in Buddhist philosophy and the title of Khenpo (Professor of Buddhist Studies and Spiritual Preceptor) by His Holiness Pema Norbu “Penor” Rinpoche in January 1994. As a Khenpo (Professor), he continued giving lectures and teachings students of Ngagyur Nyingma Institute for another year before returning Nepal in 1995.

Beneficiaries of Khenpo Sange Rangjung Rinpoche
Following permission from H.H. Pema Norbu “Penor” Rinpoche, Khenpo Sange Rangjung established a small monastery and retreat center at Talku VDC, Pharphing, Kathmandu in 1995. As time progressed, the number of students increased so Khenpo founded Ngagyur Nyingma Palyul Urgen Dorjee Chholing Monastery, Lama School (shedra) and Retreat Center at same location. Now this Lama school (college) gives monastic education for up-to college level students. Currently (as of November 2011) there are 300 students studying in this Monastery, Lama School and Retreat Center. All the expenses of the monastery are financed by Khenpo Sange Rangjung himself. All students of this monastery are provided free education with free clothing, food and accommodation and basic healthcare services by the founder.
There are two other Lama schools owned by Khenpo which are based in Ilam District of Nepal. One of them is “Urgen Tengyeling Monastery & School” located at Mabu VDC, Ward No. 5 in Ilam which provides free education, clothing, food and shelter to 40 monk students. The other one is called “Sherab Raldri Ling School” situated at Naya Bazaar, Ilam, Nepal which provides education and teachings to local people on Tibetan Buddhism.
Khenpo Sange Rangjung Rinpoche frequently travels to many countries to perform various Dharma and ritual Poojas (prayers) including world peace prayers and to give Buddha’s teachings, oral transmissions and empowerments at Monasteries and Buddhist Centers in Nepal, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, USA, India and other countries.

Khenpo Sange Rangjung Rinpoche is responsible for management, supervision and financing all the costs and expenses of Ngagyur Nyingma Palyul Urgen Dorjee Chholing Monastery. He is responsible for teachings and providing free education to about 1000 monk scholars annually. Responsible for also directing and supervising all monasteries and Buddhist Centers under his command to ensure that they are functioning properly to his expectation. He also allocates qualified teachers and Dharma Gurus (Khenpos, Lopens and Lamas) for his monasteries and centers in Nepal and overseas.
